10/25 meeting recap
Dear Cleveland fountain pen enthusiasts,
Thanks for a great meeting on October 25! We enjoyed outstanding discussion on our pens, inks and paper. Everyone’s presence and conversation and friendship gave us, as usual, a great afternoon.
Once again, Joseph generously donated a giveaway, a very nice custom-engraved orange fountain pen from Fountain Pen Revolution. Katie won the pen. Congrats Katie! Joseph then participated in our 20 questions. I hope you all enjoy that activity as much as I do.
The next meeting of the Cleveland Pen Club will be on January 24, 2027, at 1:30PM – 3:30PM. Same location: Cuyahoga County Public Library, Independence Branch, 6361 Selig Dr, Independence, OH 44131. We meet quarterly on the fourth Sundays in January, April, July and October. Plan to join us, and invite others. We may open up even more club meetings, and when plans are firm I will let everyone know.
Registration is open for the Ohio Pen Show, December 3-6, in Columbus at https://theohiopenshow.com/. If you’re planning to stay overnight, I suggest contacting the hotel asap to get the pen show discount rate. The show has a new date and location this year, and it should be a good time. I will definitely look forward to getting a room key that works! (IYKYK) If you have never attended a pen show before, I encourage you to try it. David Parker’s Pen Show 101 https://youtu.be/eJj1FP3YPYw?si=Htp6chEYrGIyBDWG video is a great introduction to the pen show experience.
Fountain Pen Day 2026 is coming up very soon on November 6. Website is https://www.fountainpenday.com/. There is a little confusion because the sponsor section mentions 2025, but at any rate it’s a great list of places to source pens. Speaking of which, I distributed a list of fountain pen retailers at our meeting. I’m attaching it to this email. If you know a business that should be on that list but is not, please let me know!
The announcement I am most excited about is that Edison Pen Company has invited us for a facility tour! Edison Pen Company is located in Huron, Ohio, about an hour’s drive west of the library where we meet. Owner Brian Gray will take us through the creation of a custom pen from start to finish, including tuning the nib to perfection. If you are interested in this, I want to know what scheduling works best for you. Please complete this Google form, Edison Tour Questionnaire https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfh-jTNiLM2VsXJL5FkFXb7bk5Q09aR-VxVm5uLZp-jymsFMg/viewform?usp=header, so we can pick the best date in January, February or March. Once I have good data, I will announce the date and other details.
Thanks again, everyone, for making our club a lot of fun. If you have any questions, suggestions, or ideas to share in advance of the next meeting, please reach out. Otherwise, enjoy your pens, inks and paper, and spread the word about our club! I look forward to our next gathering.
